It’s officially spring — at least in my little patch of yard. I found the first full rose bloom of the season on my favorite rosebush, a climber called “Eden.” It’s a big, pink complicated cabbage-like rose. I planted the bush five years ago and now it covers the railing along the front porch. It’s spectacular when it’s fully in bloom.

For now, this single rose is positively perfect.

Thank you all for keeping me company during my insomnia last night. I’ve read all your comments three times already! Can’t wait to drop in on your blogs — such a creative, International group! So happy to meet you in this beautiful corner of the Internet.

(Tonight, I’ve resolved to go to bed early!)

The first rose of the season is so special. My first home had an out-of-control-huge rambling rose bush that was so beautiful when it bloomed.

great blog — looking forward to reading and seeing more! and I second the melatonin suggestion — either that or a fabulous Chinese doctor in Los Angeles.

  21. Charlie says:

Beautiful rose! Spring is definitely in bloom now. The beauty of a rose is that even when only one has bloomed or one is left at the end of the season it always makes you stop and take a moment.

Is it any wonder that roses–particularly the old fashioned ones like your lovely French variety–have inspired more poetry than any other flower? I hope you’ll share photos of your porch when the bush is in full bloom!

  33. Susan says:

I have just planted a climbing rose. I keep willing it to grow grow grow. Seeing your rose has cheered me up, it is lovely. It has reminded me that I have beautiful roses to come. Even if I have to wait a year or two.

  34. - Renée - says:

Wow! I wish the weather was that nice over here! We still have a little bit of snow left and the grass is still yellow. So no roses yet lol But at least all the snow is almost gone!

  35. P. says:

I love Eden climbers! They have such a beautiful form. I’m debating if I should get one to cover the ugly building that butts up against our balcony, but I’m not sure if they will climb it, even with a trellis.

  36. Crystal Jigsaw says:

Many flowers out now signify this beautiful season but your rose is truly stunning.
