    and more.

  177. I never hope to win much in life, but this would be a dream to have. I can’t say that I deserve anything, but only why these would fit into my life, and why they would be treasured not only by me, but by my friends, my family, and my students. I read obsessively, with a fervor so intense it consumes my entire life. I am reading Anna Karenina and The Invisible Mountain as of right now, I re-read Brideshead, Revisited Today. I don’t have much money, but I spend every extra penny on books alone, and I am in awe of their frightening and intense beauty, humbled by their greatness, and grateful that I can spend even a day immersed in their wonder. I volunteer at the public library to pay homage to the art of reading, and I give French lessons to anyone who asks so that they may read in multiple languages. I am studying literature and languages, and such a beautiful copy of any of Fitzgerald’s work would so touch my soul, so affect every part of my being. Upon my shelves are books that I have collected since I was a small child; I remember crying through The Great Gatsby when I was fifteen. I held back sobs when Nick Carraway finds the list that Gatsby wrote when he was a child, and understood his desperation. I refer to Fitzgerald when I am in a place where I feel small, yet full of ambition. I read The Beautiful and the Damned when I suffered my first heart break at 17, trapped on vacation with my parents my, my soul worked over like saltwater taffy. Now, I am struggling with every dime to put myself through school, as well as supporting my family every step of the way. If I were to recieve a book I would be as happy as could be; I would be filled with “Wild Gratitude” as the poet Ed Hirsch would call the sensation. I would love to have Tender is the Night or Flappers and Philosophers. They are already on my ‘to read’ list, and I will have to wait until Christmas to buy any new books. I know that whoever is the recipient of this prize is one lucky individual. Thank you for writting such a great blog, I read it daily.
