Holly Golightly!!!

Hello dear English Muse readers, this is Gulfem from All Happy Things Around again!

I have a kind of “usually open radar” when it comes to music and discovering new bands, singers. Bookstores and restaurants are perfect places for me to add new names to my playlist. Whenever I read a good piece of music, I ask the name of the band to closest staff member, immediately. Thank God, it always worked out so far, I discovered many of my favourite bands/singers in that way!

My such latest discovery is Holly Golightly. I was already in a peaceful environment, my favourite bookstore in Istanbul, hearing Holly Golightly for the first time just doubled it. Also, when extremely helpful staff members told me the name of the singer, I just laughed.

Holly Golightly: One of the best women characters ever depicted, thanks to brilliant Truman Capote!

I love the song, There’s An End, check below! I hope you will like it as well!

Ah, and I am open to singer/band suggestions all the time!

Have a great week!

Livia & Colin

livia instagram

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that I was working on a story about Livia and Colin Firth. I wanted to follow up with a little snapshot of the story, which appeared in the Oscar issue of The Hollywood Reporter

The story is about Livia’s effort to encourage celebrities to wear eco fashions on the red carpet. She had great success this year, with Michael Fassbender and Colin wearing tuxes made partly of recycled plastic to the BAFTA awards. Viola Davis wore a pink Valentino dress made of recycled soda bottles.

I LOVE the dress Livia is wearing the photo above. It’s an “upcycled” gown by Gary Harvey made of vintage opera-costume dresses!

Livia blogs about her efforts on the UK Vogue site. Her Twitter page, with links to behind-the-scenes candids, is fun to follow too. Plus, both sites have photos of this handsome guy:

PS: She also has an amazing Tumblr.

Essentials of Audrey Hepburn Style

Hello dear English Muse readers,  this is Gulfem from All Happy Things Around, once again!

Mathcbook Magazine has been my favourites since the day I discovered it via this blog (Thank you Tina!) For their latest issue, they have a genius file named “Audrey Hepburn Re-imagined For a New Age”.

I adore Audrey Hepburn! Not only because of her unique beauty and style but for her lovely personality and world view as well.

Reading this file on Matchbook Magazine have been a true creativity exercise for me. What would her dressing room look like? What about her medicine apartment? What would be on her shelves?

Apparently, Matchbook Magazine has some great answers to these questions! Her apartment would look like this…

1. Thomas Hammer Print, Saatchi Online, $ 20  2. Tufted Pink Headboard, Windsor Smith Home, $ 2,050  3. Field Crest Luxury Hotel Sheet Set, Target, $ 50 4. Suzanne Kasler Sunburst Mirror, Ballard Designs, $ 79  5. Tenda Pharmacy Floor Lamp, Room&Board, $ 210  6. London Chair, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, $ 1,425  7. Pink Junior Letter Pillow, Jonathan Adler, $ 98  8. Stone Herringbone Throw, Serena & Lilly, $ 250  9. Leather Pouf, Target, $ 50   10. Tiered Metal Stand, Wisteria, $ 179

PS: Thank you Tina and lovely English Muse readers for having me as a guest blogger, it was a great pleasure for me to be a part of this 😉

It’s A Wonderful Day For Doris Day!

Doris Day is the epitome of kindness, sincerity, and femininity. I first became a fan at thirteen and forever became transfixed with the wonderful music and movies of this great lady. She teaches us all to be better human beings with her enormous work for the care of animals.  At almost eighteen my love for her has not diminished a bit. Doris Day continues to inspire young women to always remember to stay true as well as sweet. – Dominique Lessing

“I like joy; I want to be joyous. I want to smile and I want to make people laugh. And that`s all I want.  I like being happy. I want to make others happy.” ― Doris Day

Elle Fanning: Grannie Chic!

I love this candid photo of It Girl Elle Fanning, the Super 8 scene stealer, heading home from Fashion Week in New York. She’s really displaying a strong sense of style these days, especially for someone so young.
She’s becoming known for her statement glasses.
I love the ones she’s wearing in this photo, by French eyewear designer Francis Klein.

What do you think? Is this a hit or miss?

PS: Don’t forget to enter to win the beautiful (and very pink) Vanity Fair book in this week’s giveaway!

Zooey Deschanel, too cute?

The latest issue of New York Magazine is out this week with a fantastic profile of Zooey Deschanel, who is getting a lot of attention these days for her TV Show, New Girl. Some people say she’s too cute, too precious, too girly

She shoots back: “That people equate being girlie with being nonthreatening … I mean, I can’t think of a more blatant example of playing into exactly the thing that we’re trying to fight against. I can’t be girlie? I think the fact that people are associating being girlie with weakness, that needs to be examined. I don’t think that it undermines my power at all.”

Is she too cute? Yeah, cute like a fox.
