Nick & Nora

Nov 05, 2012

Most days I feel as if I’m living in a Thin Man movie… beautiful clothes, martinis, and a witty husband & loveable terrier that always keep things entertaining. Needless to say, I was thrilled to hear this little interview on NPR this weekend. Two never-before-released novellas have just been published under the title Return of the Thin Man and will, of course, be downloaded to my Kindle immediately.

If you’ve never seen the Thin Man movies, they are must see! Myrna Loy and William Powell as Nick & Nora Charles are one of my favorite on-screen couples of all time. Here are a few of my favorite clips as well as a little something to whet your palette…

Until next week, I hope you’ll stop by Secrets of a Belle and say ‘hello!’

Morning guys. It’s Lelanie from of Beauty and Love, here to welcome you into the new week. I am currently working with an awesome couple. The aim is to help them merge their different design styles and to create a homely space for their family. She loves bright eclectic and he is mad about high-contrast modern. So, where to from here? How about Modern Eclectic? This is a great style and almost anything goes.

There are different ways to get this look.

But here are some key pieces that could help you get a unique, personal look. Mid century modern, vintage and unique pieces work really well when creating this look.

What do you think of Modern Eclectic style? Too quirky or personal- just as you like it?

Have a lovely day, Lelanie.

My Husband is, my dad was, but, sadly, I got my mother’s genes. I’m pretty sure we could both sleep until 10 every day and be perfectly content. However, since Husband has been in NYC,  I’ve found myself waking up from a not-so-restful sleep at 5am each day. If I were a normal person, I’m sure I would go ahead and get up, but naturally my stubborn self lays there determined to recapture the slumber I feel I deserve. Perhaps if I had some cuter motivation in our bedroom getting out of bed each morning would be a bit easier…

A sure way to wake up when nothing else works? A little sing-along…

What about you? Are you a morning person? Do you have any tips for those of us that are not?

Until next week, loves!

Don’t you just love this picture of Princess Margaret?
It was taken by her husband which makes it even sweeter!

It doesn’t matter what kind of day I’m having, there’s no way I’d rather relax than with a hot bath. Last week, when my husband was out of town, I stopped by the store on the way home and got the latest issue of Vanity Fair, a bottle of bubble bath, & a tub of vanilla ice cream. It didn’t make up for husband being out of town, but it definitely made the evening a lot better. I think Sylvia Plath would agree…

What about you? What are your must-haves for a good soak?

The Cincinnati apartment of graphic designer Drew Steinbrecher is beyond wonderful. I love the white walls and the colorful flea market art:
