It’s Marthe from the Freedom Experiment, and I’m going to be sharing little bits and pieces from my life every Wednesday while Tina is working. I thought I’d start with a little introduction!

I’m 25 years old, and I’m a creative Norwegian soul. I live in Oslo and I’m officially a law student. However, I spend far more time writing and blogging than studying, so I guess it would be more suitable to call myself a writer! I’m passionately interested in personal development, dreams, poetry, photography, books, style and decoration. I also love to travel, and this summer I’m going to visit Amsterdam, Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco, Portland (OR) and New York. Maybe we can meet up? If you want to connect or read more from me, head over to The Freedom Experiment and I’ll be happy to welcome you there. However, as I said, I’m honoured to be guest posting on The English Muse every Wednesday from now on. Excited to meet you!

I thought I’d start with a few Instagrams from my daily life:

1. MT tape and my desk 2. My shadow 3. Relaxing in the sunshine 4. Carrot cake muffins with cream cheese and cherry jam 5. Carrot, spinach, beet and apple juice 6. The rooftops of Oslo 7. Having a boyfriend who’s taking a semester abroad (in Sydney) has it’s benefits! 8. A park in Oslo 9. Scented candle from Voluspa 10. Me reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M Pirsig

Thank you Tina for having me! See you next week!

I’d love it if you would comment and say hello! Where in the world are you located?

Livia & Colin

Mar 19, 2012

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that I was working on a story about Livia and Colin Firth. I wanted to follow up with a little snapshot of the story, which appeared in the Oscar issue of The Hollywood Reporter

The story is about Livia’s effort to encourage celebrities to wear eco fashions on the red carpet. She had great success this year, with Michael Fassbender and Colin wearing tuxes made partly of recycled plastic to the BAFTA awards. Viola Davis wore a pink Valentino dress made of recycled soda bottles.

I LOVE the dress Livia is wearing the photo above. It’s an “upcycled” gown by Gary Harvey made of vintage opera-costume dresses!

Livia blogs about her efforts on the UK Vogue site. Her Twitter page, with links to behind-the-scenes candids, is fun to follow too. Plus, both sites have photos of this handsome guy:

PS: She also has an amazing Tumblr.

Happy Saturday

Mar 10, 2012

Here’s my little Los Angeles week-in-review via Instagram:

Wilshire Blvd. eastbound; flowers at my editor’s baby shower; a palm tree in the courtyard of the Wilshire Ebell Theater; A “Love Me” sign on a Wilshire Blvd. building, westbound;

Nicole’s awesome Valentino heels; David Boies and George Clooney at the “8” play premiere; Hollywood & Highland; “Think Outside the Box” in Nicole’s Beverly Hills kitchen;

Full moon over Century City; morning in Pasadena; evening at the Wilshire Ebell Theater; sunset in Beverly Hills.

I spent a lot of time on Wilshire Blvd this week. It’s nice to have a Saturday to relax! I want to send out a special thanks to the lovely guest bloggers who kept English Muse going while I was traveling. (I’m hoping they’ll stay on!)

What are you doing this weekend?

Jan 14, 2012

I’m working on a story about Colin and his lovely wife, Livia. (More on that later!) Here’s one of my Instagram photos of the dashing actor at the Soho House in West Hollywood this morning.

Happy Friday everyone…Like half the world, I’m completely addicted to Instagram.
Here’s a list of five photographers definitely worth following:

#1 Calivintage
This California fashionista always has interesting takes on her locales, whether it’s the Golden Gate Bridge, a used bookstore, or backstage at New York Fashion Week.

#2 Taza
Best known for her blog Rockstar Diaries, Taza brings her eye for the charming and cute to the small screen. Expect lots of photos of Kingsley the dog and baby Eleanor.

#3 Bec Winnel
The big sis to Liss Winnel of Daydream Lily, Bec is a noted artist in Australia. Her Instagrams feature her artwork and the things that inspire her. That beautiful, etherial sensibility runs in the family!

#4 The Original 10 Cent
Lori Andrews of the blog The 10 Cent Designer is on the cutting edge of a new genre, the fashion gram.
I always love to see what she’s wearing.

#5 Sandra Juto
Sandra is a Swedish artist living in Berlin. She captures the city so beautifully in her Instagram photos. She’s also an avid knitter/crocheter and has become known for her charming “wrist worms.”
I think she’s amazing!

Who are your favorite Instagram photographers?

Both have their drawbacks: You need an iPhone (at the moment) to use Instagram. And Polaroid film is expensive and difficult to find.

But if you had your choice, which one would you pick?

I can’t remember how I started down this permalink path tonight that lead me to
Pope Saint Victor’s website. Maybe it was a link on a friend-of-a-friend’s flickr favorites page? But here I am, three hours later, with the results of my little journey. I’m in love Mr. PSV’s photo/art vibe:
building conversations
those that are movable, and those that move.
who can deny this pure design?

"tree of life" at the belcourt theatre.

Pope Saint Victor (also known as Victor Samuel Huckabee)
is a Nashville-based graphic designer and photographer.
Of course he was an instant sensation on Instagram.
And his website is brilliantly original, especially this post.

Ok, it’s 12:30 am in LA. Where does the time go?

Hello Weekend!

A little round up of interesting stories on the Internet today:

Facebook Targets Instagram with Photo Filters

A look at John Galliano fluffing Kate Moss’s wedding veil

California Earthquake Snobs: “I don’t get out of bed for under 7.2.”

Grace Coddington in Profile

Could Amazon Take Down ‘the New Yorker’?

I hope you’re having a lovely day. It’s hot here in LA, and I’m staying inside by the fan, reading French Lessons by Ellen Sussman. A book that’s also ooh la la hot.
